Basic Information

FIRAT’s partnership with the University of Rwanda is anchored in a shared commitment to collaborative research and capacity building. Formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding, this alliance focuses on developing data-driven healthcare solutions and promoting evidence-based decision-making in health and education sectors. The collaboration extends into the INSTAL Africa project (Innovation Science and Technology for Action and Learning in Africa), which brings together national institutions such as the Rwanda National Council for Science and Technology, Rwanda Biomedical Centre, National Industrial Research and Development Agency, Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority, University of Global Health Equity, and DrosAfrica. Within this consortium, DrosAfrica is the technical partner of FIRAT with critical technical role  supporting the use of Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) as a model organism to enhance biomedical research, training, and capacity development. It is in the forefront of establishing laboratories for this capacity building initiative. This innovative approach empowers African scientists with cost-effective and rapid research tools, fostering new frontiers in biomedical science.
