Digital Marketing for African Professionals: Strategy, Tools & Execution

2 Credits
Digital Innovation & Cybersecurity

Course Overview

This mini-course equips African entrepreneurs, small business owners, and professionals with a practical, mobile-first framework for digital marketing success. You will learn how to build a coherent marketing strategy, create compelling content, leverage the social media platforms your customers actually use (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), and measure what works — all contextualised for African markets with limited data, diverse languages, and mobile money ecosystems. Digital marketing is no longer optional for African businesses — it is the primary way customers discover, evaluate, and buy products and services. Yet most training material is designed for Western markets with unlimited data budgets, desktop-first habits, and credit-card-based payment systems. This mini-course turns that model on its head. Across two modules and six lessons, you will move from observer to practitioner: first understanding the unique African digital landscape, then building and executing a real marketing strategy. Module 1 lays the foundations — consumer behaviour, strategy design, and content marketing. Module 2 puts channels to work — social media, search/email/mobile, and performance analytics. Each lesson is built around an 800+-word deep-dive with worked examples from real African businesses.

Modules & Lessons

Module 1 establishes the contextual and strategic bedrock every African digital marketer needs. It begins by mapping the actual digital behaviour of African consumers — mobile-first, data-sensitive, community-driven, and platform-diverse — then moves into building a structured strategy that aligns business goals with audience needs. The module closes with the engine of all digital marketing: content. You will learn how to plan, create, and repurpose content that works on low-bandwidth connections and resonates across languages and cultures. By the end of this module, you will have a concrete strategy blueprint and the beginnings of a content plan.
