Overview

The Infectious Diseases and Global Health program at FIRAT Rwanda focuses on combating infectious diseases through research, education, policy advocacy, and international collaboration. Recognizing the interconnected nature of global health, the program addresses disease prevention, control, and management with special emphasis on emerging threats, antimicrobial resistance, and health system strengthening.

This initiative aligns local efforts with global health priorities, fostering partnerships and innovations that enhance disease surveillance, outbreak response, and sustainable health interventions.

Functions and Roles

1. Dialogue Series and Stakeholder Engagement:

Convene regular Infectious Diseases Dialogue Series to bring together researchers, clinicians, policymakers, public health officials, and community representatives to discuss challenges, share insights, and co-develop strategies.

2. Research and Surveillance:

Conduct and support epidemiological research, disease surveillance, and antimicrobial resistance monitoring to inform public health strategies.

3. Capacity Building:

Train healthcare workers, laboratory technicians, and public health officials on infectious disease diagnostics, treatment protocols, and outbreak management.

4. Policy Development and Advocacy:

Work with government and international partners to translate evidence into effective policies, guidelines, and resource allocation.

5. Global Collaboration:

Engage in regional and international networks to share data, best practices, and coordinate responses to infectious disease threats.

6. Community Engagement and Education:

Promote public awareness campaigns on prevention measures, vaccination, hygiene, and responsible use of antimicrobials.

7. Innovation and Technology Application:

Support the development and implementation of new diagnostic tools, digital surveillance systems, and mobile health applications.
